High Watermark Salo[o]n: Schaefer's Rowdy
Red is a yarn-girl name Ruby.
She stands in the prow.
Upstream without a paddle. Fearless. The white bird of youth will be with her when she returns to the tree of life to feed a friend's red bird and offer bells to deer. Her dear friend sits in the stern, joins her for the voyage. We want to hold the empty basket she left by her baby shoes. We want to wait outside in the dark, let the house light be beacon. Like red, we don't want to be shelved, don't hide with gray wolf when it thunders. No, we stay red. And that makes us strong, makes us long for chairs side by side outside on a bank above a river low and steady. |
